The Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) program is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to excel as an aircraft mechanic. This training prepares you to pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) test to become a certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician for employment in aviation maintenance. You are trained to service, repair, and overhaul aircraft components and systems, including the airframe, piston engines, turbine engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, propellers, instrumentation, warning and environmental systems.
The Maintenance Technician program draws from AIM’s core coursework in professional maintenance fields, introducing the student to electricity, surfaces and controls, transportation structures, power systems, hydraulics, and electrical control systems. The student is also guided in following process procedures, adequately documenting maintenance procedures within forms and records, ensuring a safe and compliant working environment, and developing skills as a maintenance professional.
The program features specialized instruction within areas such as nondestructive testing, inspection, and assessment of maintenance projects, welding, wind energy, 3D printing, or other areas that the local campus and employers have designated as essential within the maintenance industry. The Program & Courses also includes the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10- hour general safety online certification. The Maintenance Technician program prepares the student for entry-level employment within a wide variety of maintenance-related fields. Maintenance technicians serve in a growing number of fields, including transportation, robotics, commercial buildings, and real estate, large and small engine repair, theme park ride maintenance, automotive repair, and many other industries.
